Hot Tub Delivered

Our hot tub was delivered and will be installed next week. Some of you have asked about it. Here are the details:

1. We selected an above-ground spa because we use it more than our in ground one. In the US, an above ground spa costs an average of $15-$19 a month to run 24-7. It is all electric and uses 220. It is very efficient because you are only heating 300 gallons of water and not 1000 gallons plus 2 tons of concrete. Also, it is entirely separate from your pool and hence you are not heating it every time you want to use it. It uses bromine not chlorine so your skin stays soft. And, there is no waiting-when the mood strikes, its ready. Finally, its easy to repair. But, if it breaks for good, no jack hammers-just buy a new one. We are hiding it with masonry and plantings to upgrade its looks.

2. We bought ours on-line from Walmart.com and had them ship it directly to our customs broker in Nogales, AZ. After proding from Walmart, the manufacturer delivered a NFTA certificate to the customs broker so we paid no duty. He then shipped it to our house. Our VAT, shipping costs to our house, broker fees etc. ran $900. Spas run from $2,400-$6,000 and from Walmart take about 6 weeks to get to the cutoms broker. Shipping to the broker in Nogales is free. Walmart customer service was excelent.
